Celeste Lovick
I was born on the west coast of Canada in 1977, and have always loved to sing. At age 16, I was given my first guitar and inspired by artists like Tracy Chapman and the Beatles, I began to write my own songs and to perform them down at the Inner Harbour in Victoria. I always knew I was meant to be a performer, but spent the next several years focusing that energy into acting for film and theater, rather than music. In 1999, an opportunity arose for me to study abroad in England. Nurtured by the vibrant acoustic music scene there, I decided to postpone my degree and to stay in the UK to follow my heart and my dream. Over the last 9 years in England, I have been blessed to have many fantastic playing experiences both on my own and with some very special musicians. Some of the highlights have been supporting the Proclaimers at the Waterfront in Norwich, playing the National Theatre, Glastonbury Festival, Stainsby Festival, Gaunt's House, Embercombe, playing with our 6 piece ensemble (me, Chris Ellis, Rosie Toll, Brian Boothby, Dave Sturt and Jeffrey Davenport) and some very magical campfires. I have also recently met the wonderful live music scene on Canada's West Coast and am grateful for the influence that has had on me and my music. As well as performing, in the last several years I have enjoyed making three self-produced albums, "Live at Gaunt's House" (2000), "Listening" (2002) and "In This Time" (2007). Also, in 2008, Chris Ellis and Celeste Lovick made an album together called "Sheltering Tree". During these years I have found great inspiration in artists such as Praying for the Rain and The Waterboys. I am grateful for all the creative people I meet who work in this way, bringing through music and other art forms which remind us of the connectedness of all things, of what it means to be present, loving and compassionate.
