Sarah Burton

After years of hammering on a Hasbro xylophone revealed a precocious musical talent, Sarah Burton's parents enrolled her in piano lessons. Perhaps if they had known that piano lessons would lead to a torrid life of debaucherous rock and roll, they would never have made her practice those sonatas. By the age of thirteen, Sarah grew tired of those sonatas, and turned her affections to the old guitar under the piano. The guitar — a weathered but beautiful classical guitar from Spain — had spent most of Sarah's life living under the piano in a beat up case. Her father had stopped playing the instrument years ago, but kept it as a link to his teenage years in Madrid. Feeling compassion for the lonely instrument, Sarah picked up the guitar and started lessons. It didn't take long before she had written her first song on the guitar, "Dirty Man," a feminist protest against sexual harassment. Since then, Sarah has continued to write songs with various sounds and feels, ranging from soft and mellow to lurid and rough.
